Ben was born in Louisiana. He needs to have all his physical needs met due to his cerebral palsy (spastic quadriplegia). He also is non-speaking and uses technology for communication. Ben is a high school graduate, creative writer and an avid sports fan. Ben tried living in a group home but it didn’t work out. He’s back at the family home with Marian.
Hi Ben! I appreciate your mom sharing the photos of you through the years.
Maybe I should let Ben answer this himself! His words might be better than mine and I’ll give him a nudge to make a statement. He’s come a long way from only being able to nod his head for ‘yes’ and move his eyes to the left for ‘no’. Marian
OK, waiting for Ben to respond, smile!!!
Thank you for checking out my page. Being able to communicate has changed my world because I can communicate with others to tell them my needs and wants. I can tell them if I’m uncomfortable or if I need to go to the bathroom. Best of all, I can tell others my feelings. ~ Ben
Ben also has grown-up to be a good looking young man. He has such a nice warm smile and sparkling eyes. You have been very blessed to have all of these young men in your life. They were all blessed to have you.
Sandy, you need to come see these young men. You’d be in awe with the level of communication Ben is capable of doing. Much has changed since you last saw him. Yes, I’ve been so blessed by my sons. What a inspirational journey it’s been. ~ Marian
I am going through these pictures of you guys and smiling with tears in my eyes. I have kept every single Christmas card that your mom sent of all of you. I had forgotten about the face you used to make when you were little and you did not like something until I read it in the book. I had to laugh as I remembered your face with those huge brown eyes and the sad little look that you could give. It never lasted for very long and always ended up in a handsome smile that lit up the room.
Hello Susan,
I would like to reassure you that Ben can still do his basset hound face today. He still has his huge brown eyes but also a few gray hairs showing up here and there. I shared with him your comment and this is his response: “Thank you for writing to me. I don’t remember you. Sorry.” We’ll have to forgive him for not remembering you since he was quite young when we left Romney. However, if you showed up at our front door, it just might jiggle some memories in the back of his mind. ~ Marian
