Alberto came from Mexico as a teenager to have spinal fusion surgery at Shriner’s Hospital in San Francisco. The doctors did not want him to travel for more than a year after his surgery. So, he stayed on, graduated from high school and continues to work and live in California. He was never adopted but I am his American mom and grandma to his children.
